Papertrail

Papertrail is hosted log management done right. Straight from the horse’s mouth: Papertrail helps detect, resolve, and avoid infrastructure problems using log messages.

I’ve been privileged enough to work with the guys at Seven Scale for a few years now, with Papertrail being our latest endeavor. They make it work beautifully and I make it look beautiful.

Golf Trac

Golf Trac is a product designed and developed by Formed Function. Golf is a game of precision, and in order to improve, a golfer must “understand the numbers”. Golf Trac is a personal stat-tracking tool for golfers of all levels. Entering rounds played is all that is required, Golf Trac does the rest.

Ballpark It

Ballpark It is a tool I built that would allow me to create estimates for potential projects. But more importantly, I wanted a way to simply send a small link to a client via email to a secret URL where they could review the estimate, without needing an account. I put it up on Heroku and then open-sourced it on GitHub.

Note: the estimate in the screenshots is purely an example and is not a real estimate.

The Ritzy Lunch

The Ritzy is a little restaurant in Clarksburg, WV that has been in business for over 75 years. It has been handed down through generations. Although The Ritzy has been in business for over 75 years, they did not have any web presence. I worked with the restaurant owners to give them a website.

A particular challenge of this project was recreating the typeface that existed on their sign. It had become their brand. I think the digital type is close enough to represent them well.

My Personal Site/Blog

I’ve been maintaining a personal site since 2005 or so. Like every designer, I usually redesign my sites at least once per year. These are a few screenshots of where it has been over the years.

Sorry, the designs from the earlier years didn’t make it; I couldn’t promote their ugliness :-)

Common Pledge

When buying or selling items on Craigslist or Freecycle, you’re never sure if the other person(s) will show up to meet you. Common Pledge attempts to solve that problem by ensuring that all parties intend to show up at the meeting. Common Pledge saves time by reducing the “flake factor”.

My Personal (old) Portfolio

Before going all professional with a real business, I used to keep track of my work through a personal portfolio. It housed design projects, photography, and open source code. It’s a constant reminder of how far I’ve come as a designer.
